Giving Peace a New Face
On September 22nd, 23rd and 24th, participants, speakers, artists and musicians from all over the world representing many cultures, religions and political ideologies will come together in Santa Fe for the 2006 World Peace Conference. The theme for the Conference is Giving Peace a New Face. The three-day event will explore the many facets of peace and will introduce the concepts of building environmentally sound, sustainable, peace-based economies.
This conference will begin to define and shape the face of a peace-based economy. Through the exploration of an Economy of Peace, defense-based economic structures can be examined, and the true long-term cost of war can be investigated. The model of scarcity and the issue of centralized versus localized economies will be addressed. Practical ways to move forward with new approaches to building a sustainable economy will be explored, and incentives within the economy to promote and support peace. Conference topics will also address new paradigms for reconciliation and ways for creating cultural understanding.
Creating the New Face of Peace
The theme for post-conference activities is Creating the New Face of Peace. The Conference design will provide participants with the information and structure necessary to become active and involved in post-conference communication with one another as we all work towards Creating the New Face of Peace. Participants will leave the conference with a deeper insight and understanding of the concept of a peace-based economy. Participants will also be given the opportunity to establish a network of other interested partners who will provide support as we create this concept into reality and bring peace and prosperity to our own lives, our families and our communities.
The 2006 World Peace Conference will take place in the Chambers of the House of Representatives at the New Mexico State Capitol Building located at the corner of Old Santa Fe Trail and Paseo de Peralta in Santa Fe. Overflow attendance will be placed in the Senate Chambers and at various locations throughout the downtown Santa Fe area where video feeds will broadcast the proceedings.
Audience: Will include world leaders, educators, youth, activists, grassroots NGO’s, environmentalists, sustainability designers, and governmental, business and religious leaders.
A variety of Santa Fe lodging can be found here.
